Out of 58 applicants, 32 Malawians were selected, including some graduates of the Optometry School in Malawi, in order to be trained in a two-and-a-half-week course to become OneDollarGlasses opticians. Their first challenge: to bend a ring from the spring steel wire, which is used for the frames of the OneDollarGlasses. The participants are to get used to the material.
Step by step all participants are being taught the basics of the production of the OneDollarGlasses. They also hear lectures on basic skills in optometry and business administration.
